Martin & Mortimer was founded in 1965 and has grown to become one of the leading independent firms of Chartered Surveyors and Valuers in East Anglia.

Our team of professionals provide high quality property related services for both private and corporate clients throughout East Anglia and London.  In order to provide the highest possible level of service to our clients, Martin and Mortimer are regulated by the RICS.

In addition to managing the business, Mark undertakes detailed building surveys and valuations on a range of property types, including period buildings, incorporating his knowledge of building pathology. Mark is also actively engaged in Party Wall work, principally across areas of prime London real estate where basements are often a significant feature. Other work includes producing expert witness reports, dealing with boundary matters, together with general mediation and negotiation skills in situations where disputes have arisen.

His approach seeks to combine a clear understanding of a given building together with an appreciation for his client's particular criteria/requirements, where the use of various soft skills (e.g. listening and communicating) are considered highly important.

Mark’s aim is to grow the business by growing the people within it.

Stephen D Scott-Fawcett
MA (Cantab), FRICS, DipHI, RICS Registered Valuer

Stephen was elected Associated of the Royal Institution of Charted Surveyors (ARICS) in June 1978 having been trained by the Valuation Office (then Inland Revenue). He next attended Cambridge University and, after graduating, joined Martin & Mortimer as a full equity partner in June 1987. Stephen developed the business over the next 24 years and became a senior consultant in January 2011. He specialises in detailed building survey and valuation work (in both residential and commercial sectors).

Stephen’s long experience allows him to offer Expert Witness advice in the context of building and/or valuation disputes. He lives in north Norfolk and has a thorough working knowledge of East Anglia. Stephen is currently based (part-time) at our Ely office as well as working from home in Cromer.

Martin Jung
BSc (Hons), MRICS, RICS Registered Valuer

Martin joined the firm in 2016 having previously run his own very successful residential surveying and valuation practice for more than 20 years. Martin graduated from Leicester Polytechnic (now De Montford University) in 1990 and qualified as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) in 1993.

Martin has extensive experience in the field of residential surveying and valuations; he now undertakes most of the RICS Home Buyer Reports and residential valuations. Martin also assists with the day-to-day running of operations within the office.

Lucy Shalev
AssocRICS, RICS Registered Valuer

Lucy joined Martin and Mortimer in early 2016 but prior to this had been in the property industry for 8 years in various roles.  As a fully qualified CSTDB Damp and Timber Surveyor, Lucy undertakes much of our work in this area.

Lucy also specialises in Party Wall matters and is a member of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors.  Currently an AssocRICS professional, Lucy is working towards gain full MRICS (Chartered Surveyor) status.

Ed Ruffles
BSc (Hons), MRICS, MFPWS

Ed is a Chartered Building Surveyor and a professional member of both the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors and the Pyramus and Thisbe Club.

He is experienced in all aspects of Building Surveying.  However, he mainly undertakes Party Wall matters, Specifications of Works, Professional Reports, Schedules of Condition and Contract Administration.

Whilst running his own Building Surveying Practice, Ed provides consultancy services for Martin and Mortimer and is very much part of the team.

Garry Hunt
PhD FCMI FIIRSM (RSP) CMIOSH CIWFM C Build E MCABE MFPWS

A qualified commercial drone pilot (SUA) , Garry adds an innovative dimension to our surveying practice, enabling a cost effective view of difficult-to-access buildings. Garry is a Member of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors and the Pyramus and Thisbe Club.

Garry brings years of Construction Design and Management (CDM) practice to Martin and Mortimer. He is highly regarded Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner. Garry is also a Chartered Building Engineer, a Certified Member of the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (CIWFM) and a Recognised Safety Practitioner (RSP). Additionally, Garry is a Party Wall Surveyor and undertakes an increasing amount of our work in this area.

Laurette Sherriff

Laurette has worked for Martin & Mortimer since 2003. She is responsible for the administration management of the company which includes the preparation and dispatch of the documentation and reports.

Laurette is also our financial administration colleague and any enquiries and queries for the company are dealt with by her.

Louise Harper

Louise is our newest member of the team and joined us in 2020.

Louise is part of the administration team and ensures that all documentation is despatched to our clients and is usually your first point of contact when you call.

Mark Duckworth

Mark also undertakes party wall work across East Anglia and London where basements are often a significant feature. Other work includes boundary reports, together with general mediation and negotiation skills, where disputes have arisen.

Marks particular approach combines a clear appreciation of not only the technical aspects of a building but also an appreciation for his client's particular criteria/requirements (concerning a particular building).

Mark regards the use of various soft skills (e.g. listening and communicating) to be highly important in addition to using technical understanding and competence.

Stephen graduated from Cambridge University and became an Associate of the RICS in 1978. He joined Martin and Mortimer in 1987 and became a partner a year later. Stephen predominantly undertakes Building Surveys and Valuations on both residential and commercial properties. Stephen also provides expert witness reports prior to litigation.

Stephen now works for Martin and Mortimer as a Senior Consultant which allows him time to pursue other areas of interest.
